I have a bunch of things for you today.
First, have you seen the new Facebook “Notes” layout? It’s much more like LinkedIn’s “post” feature, allowing you to put an image in, use headers, etc. Sadly, it’s only available right now on our personal FB and not a page, which is disappointing because I’d love to do some for my Noon and Wilder page, but that’s okay. In the meantime, I’ll share this one, Beads and Yarn. Glee.
While we’re on the subject of Facebook, I don’t know if you’re aware of this. In January of 2015, Facebook decided to change how it displays posts in reader’s feeds. On my Noon and Wilder page, I have 876 “likes.” Theoretically, that means I’ll have 876 people see posts that I write.
Nope. It’s between six and eighteen, or thereabouts, according to my recent statistics. If I pay to “boost” the post, then it can go as high as over 1,200 (which I don’t understand, since I only have 876 likes). Here’s where you come in, Dear Reader. If you see a post from an author you’ve “liked,” or another small business, and it says “Sponsored,” know that they paid in order to have the post visible to readers on Facebook. If you’re willing, please click “like” on the post or even comment and share it. The more interactions the post gets, the more people will see it, because the algorithm Facebook uses thinks that it’s more desirable, the more people interact with it.
I have a bunch of blog posts that I’ve written this week. I feel the bug to write, I suppose! 🙂 I have five (you read that right, five) over at the Romance Studio in celebration of the Oscars; they’re all linked in my blog post about it, here. I’ve decided to shutter an old blog I had, called “Noonsense,” and am republishing the posts here before I remove it altogether. This one’s called “The Toolbox.” And today, The Flora and Fauna Report. Have you ever had a kangaroo in your front yard? Over on Noon and Wilder, I give you, Bin It.
My M/M romance workshop is winding down this week. I extended it for one week, until this Saturday, and we’ve had some great discussion about gender and sexuality, as well as some fun assignments and interaction. There’s still time to play with us, if you’d like to join in.
Over at Romance Divas, I was accepted as a student in the Mentor Bootcamp program. I’ll be studying self-publishing with the fantastic Violet Vaughn. I couldn’t be happier. The program is a three month intensive, one on one with you and a published author, working on whatever it is that you want to improve – be it craft, business, publishing, or a blend. The program is closed for this year, as it starts March 1st, but members of the forum can lurk the threads and learn a lot even doing that; the program accepts applications around January of each year.
Keep your eyes on our Facebook group for the announcement of the date; this month’s movie night will feature The Princess Bride. I can’t wait!
